Vanessa played the character of a married science teacher, Sue Lowsley, who develops a growing attraction to womanizing PE teacher Hector Reid, played by Leon. The chemistry between them onscreen was genuine because they are a couple in real life and have been married since 2010, with a two-year-old daughter, Lyla.

Vanessa admitted that she felt sick to the pit of her stomach while filming the intimate scenes with her husband. However, she also found it fun and a dream come true to work on a storyline like that with her husband. Vanessa played a significant role in getting Leon cast for the role of Hector.
