Maricris Drouaillet, Maya’s sister, has now confirmed that she spoke to Maya for the last time on January 7, just two days prior.
As her sister had scheduled a birthday excursion for her kid the following day, Drouaillet told NBC 7 News in San Diego that she spoke with Maya on the phone.
Drouaillet, though, felt that something wasn’t quite right.
She told the news crew that she remembered “feeling the panic” throughout the exchange and that Maya wasn’t acting normally.
“That night I called … and I still remember, like, the panic, the feeling of panic, how something is wrong,” Drouaillet noted.
The recollection occurs many years following unsettling revelations in the continuing investigation.
Maya’s brother visited his sister’s house in Paseo Los Gatos to look into what happened after he was last heard from on January 7.
All of her possessions, including her phone and cars, were still at the residence, but she was not there.
Before her husband Larry, 40, allegedly told authorities he was concerned for his wife’s safety, witnesses had last seen Maya on January 5 in South Bay. Police searched for three days after that.
The family of Maya engaged a private detective to assist with the case towards the end of the month.
