Forty-two-year-old Trudy Darby was a clerk at the K&D convenience store in Macks Creek, Missouri.
Trudy Darby Murder
On the evening of January 19, 1991, at 10 p.m., Trudy Darby made a call to her son from the store and informed him about two unsettling guys outside. She had left by the time he got there 10 minutes later, but her car, coat, and purse were still there. There was $200 missing from the open register. Her kidnapping was a concern for the police and her family.
Trudy’s blood and hair were discovered on a gravel road close to the Little Niangua River two days later. Shell casings were discovered close by. She had been r*ped and shot twice in the head when her body was found later that day on the river’s banks.
Suspect
The two guys that Trudy claimed were waiting outside her business with her son are the main suspects in her slaying. Authorities also thought that her death and the disappearances of Cheryl Kenney and Angela Hammond, both of Missouri, might be related.
Police questioned local s*x offenders and convicted felons. No suspects were found, though. It was assumed that the murderer(s) lived nearby due to the disposal site’s distant position.
Result
In March 1996, Rush was convicted of kidnapping and first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. In May 1995, half-brothers Jessie Rush, twenty, and Marvin Chaney, thirty-four, were arrested and charged with Trudy’s murder. Rush confessed to at least three different friends that he and Chaney were responsible for her murder.
Chaney denied being involved and claimed that he was home with his wife at the time of the abduction.
According to Rush’s multiple confessions, he and Chaney went to the store with the intention of robbing and abducting Trudy. In April 1997, Chaney pleaded guilty to kidnapping and first-degree murder. The friend was able to get Rush to confess on tape to committing the murder. Finally, he wrote several letters to another inmate, confessing to the murder.

In September 1993, one of the friends contacted the police about the confession. After entering the store and taking the money from the cash register, they dragged her out and forced her into the trunk of their car.
Police believe that Chaney was involved in other murders. She told police that Rush threatened to kill her if she went to the police. In his letters to another inmate, Rush mentioned dumping the bodies of two other women in remote locations. The two had lived in Macks Creek at the time of the murder. They had actually been stopped for speeding near the store on the night of her abduction.
