A man from North Dakota who struck a “Republican” teen claims he doesn’t want to risk his personal safety or his career.

During a recent court hearing, the North Dakota man accused of running over a minor with his automobile during a “political argument” claimed he didn’t comprehend the charges leveled against him.

According to county jail records, Shannon Brandt, 41, spent only a few days in a Stutsman County Jail after posting his $50,000 bond and being freed on criminal charges connected to the death of 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson.

He is accused of abandoning the scene of an accident and vehicular murder. Brandt argued that he was not a flight risk and opposed the bond amount.

“I have a job, a life, and a house and things that I don’t exactly want to see go by the wayside — family that is very important to me,” he said.

According to a probable-cause affidavit given to Fox News Digital on Wednesday morning, Brandt was detained on Sunday morning after informing emergency personnel that he hit the teenager because the pedestrian was threatening him.

The paper reads, “He indicated that the pedestrian phoned some persons and Brandt was frightened they were going to get him.” “Brandt admitted to State Radio that the pedestrian was a member of a Republican extreme group and that he struck the pedestrian.”
