She made her first appearance today at Manchester Crown Court. The defendant spoke only to confirm her name and enter not-guilty pleas to both accusations while dressed in a beige jacket, a white top, and black pants for the hearing.
The claims concern a boy who, for legal reasons, cannot be identified. They both date from October 2021.
The youngster was alleged “intentionally touched” by Joynes because she “did not reasonably believe he was 16 or above.”
The defendant was initially fired from her position after the allegations were made public, and the judge was informed.
She is no longer employed by the relevant educational authority. Officials from the school sat in the audience gallery and observed the activities. Joynes, of Salford, was given bail with the restrictions that she not speak to any witnesses for the prosecution and not have any unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18.
Her trial was scheduled for May and was supposed to last four days. Joynes was forewarned by Judge Rachel Smith that she would also be needed to appear at two other sessions in the matter in October.
