From 1961 to 1968, he also played for the Major League Baseball (MLB) clubs New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, and Houston Astros. From 1969 to 1970, he played for the Nippon Professional Baseball team Nankai Hawks.

Thomas played in two MLB All-Star Games. Over the course of 1,027 games, Thomas hit 106 home homers. He was selected as an American League All-Star in 1962, batting.290 with 104 RBIs and 26 home runs. Lee was crucial to Boston’s recruitment of outfielders Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon, both of whom were unrestricted free agents, in December 2000 and 2001, respectively.

He worked as a scout for the Milwaukee Brewers and Houston Astros before joining the Baltimore Orioles on December 4, 2011, as Duquette’s special assistant. Right up until the end of the 2018 campaign, he performed in the position.
