Eli Palfreyman was only 19 years old when he passed away during a tournament in southern Ontario on August 30, 2022. He died during a pre-season tournament according to his teammates.

The Ayr Centennials sent a statement via email in which they expressed their shock after learning of their skipper Eli Palfreyman’s passing on Tuesday. Ayr Centennials employee said that Palfreyman passed out in the dressing room during the second intermission. Community members helped the person until emergency services arrived. The person was taken to Cambridge Memorial Hospital, where he was tragically declared dead.

However, his exact cause of death has not yet been made public because all exhibition games in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League have been postponed until Friday. To honor the late athlete, flags at the community center in Ayr, Ontario, have been flown at half-staff.
