Veteran Telugu actor Krishna passed away on Tuesday while receiving treatment for a heart arrest at a city-based private super-specialty hospital. He was 80.
The hospital admitted Mr. Krishna, the father of actor Mahesh Babu, early on Monday and put him on a ventilator.
Following the cardiac arrest, he was treated by a multidisciplinary group of medical professionals. According to hospital officials, the actor passed suddenly on Tuesday around 4 am.
Mr. Krishna, whose real name was Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna Murthy, was one of the finest actors of his era and had appeared in 350 movies. In addition, he had success as a director and producer. In 2009, the Padma Bhushan award was given to him.
Jay Galla, the leader of the TDP, was also married to Mr. Krishna. In the 1980s, he joined Congress and was elected to the House of Representatives; however, he left politics in the wake of Rajiv Gandhi’s passing.
Indira Devi, his wife and the mother of Mahesh Babu passed away. In January, Ramesh Babu, his older son, passed away. He lost his second wife, actress Vijaya Nirmala, in 2019.
