The Passing of Officer Briar Huff in Mexico Raises Questions about Death Cause

Huff, who served both the Boulder City Marshal’s office and Las Vegas Metro Police Department in her nearly 10-year career, died of unspecified “medical issues” on December 25, 2021, that authorities believe may have been food poisoning leading to dehydration.

However, details remain unclear regarding the exact cause of Huff’s passing. Las Vegas Metro Police did not conduct its investigation, instead relying on findings from unnamed Mexican authorities.

Sheriff Joe Lombardo acknowledged the vague nature of the current explanation, saying only that it was “some form or fashion of food poisoning.” He did not provide further specifics on Huff’s health condition or why she was unable to receive successful medical treatment to save her life.

It is unknown which Mexican jurisdiction spearheaded the death investigation, if a coroner’s autopsy was completed, or if any suspicious circumstances may have contributed to this tragedy that claimed the life of an otherwise young and seemingly healthy officer.
