What caused Keenan Anderson’s death?
On a fateful Tuesday afternoon in January 2021, Keenan Anderson found himself at the center of a tragic and controversial incident that would ultimately claim his life. Anderson, a beloved English teacher, and father to a young son was involved in a traffic accident in the bustling streets of Venice, California.
Eyewitnesses reported that Anderson was acting erratically and running in the center of the road when a flagged-down officer from the LAPD’s West Traffic Division approached him. The officer spoke with Anderson and requested backup units to assist with a DUI investigation.
As the backup units arrived on the scene, Anderson suddenly fled, darting down the busy streets of Venice. The LAPD stated that Anderson exhibited abnormal behavior as he ran, and officers chased after him in an attempt to apprehend him.
The pursuit came to a head on Venice Boulevard, where Anderson allegedly resisted arrest and a struggle ensued. In an effort to subdue Anderson, the officers employed a stun gun, body weight, hard grips, and joint locks. Despite their efforts, Anderson was eventually handcuffed and had his ankles shackled.
Following the arrest, Los Angeles Fire Department officials were called to the scene to provide medical care to Anderson, who had been subjected to the use of force. Tragically, Anderson was later transported to a hospital in Santa Monica, where he suffered a heart attack and passed away.
