Gregory Fleetwood, 66, also of the Bronx, was arrested on murder charges for the murder of Jasmine Porter. The arrest was made Monday in the 1996 killing of the 33-year-old woman in the Bronx, NYPD officials announced.

As per police, Porter was found dead in the building where she had lived on Feb. 5, 1996. Officers found the 33-year-old at her Davidson Avenue residence unconscious with neck trauma and damage. Police said Monday that Fleetwood had r*ped and strangled her in front of her 5-year-old son, with the boy left in the apartment with his dead mother for a full day before they were discovered.
The tip that police got led them to test the DNA under Porter’s fingernails, which was found to be a match to Fleetwood’s. Then there was a sample from Fleetwood that was already in the police system because he had already been convicted of an eerily similar crime. In 1987, he was convicted of r*ping and strangling another woman. He was behind bars until 1994, when he was let out, only to strike again two years later. Attorney information for Fleetwood was not immediately clear.
