Frank Kameny aka Franklin Edward Kameny (May 21, 1925 – October 11, 2011) was an LGBT rights activist in the United States. He has been described as “one of the most influential figures” in the American LGBT rights movement.

Kameny contended in 1964 that gays endured more severe discrimination than blacks since the federal government did not assist them and actively discriminated against them. He predicted that the success of the civil rights movement would harm gays: “Now that it is becoming uncool to discriminate against Negroes, discrimination against gays will increase… “Homosexuality is the only significant area in this society where prejudice and discrimination remain prevalent.”
