Mamee Founder Pang Chin Hin died At the Age of 96

The Group Executive Chairman of Mamee-Double Decker passed suddenly on Saturday (5 Nov) at 6.03 am in the morning, said Malaysia’s Sin Chew Daily. The 96-year-old leaves behind three sons and three daughters with his late wife, all of whom have descendants of their own.

Due to his long life, he lived to see his grandkids, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, with five generations living under one roof until his passing.

The current group CEO is Pierre Pang, a descendant of Datuk Pang Chin Hin. Mr. Pang started a tiny factory in Malacca that produced instant noodles in 1971 while working as a second-hand automobile trader. Lucky Instant Noodle, their initial offering, was introduced in 1972. But it didn’t succeed.

Then, in 1974, Tee Chew had the bright idea to market pre-cooked, flavor-added instant noodles. After observing rural agricultural laborers consuming instant noodles straight from the packet, he had this concept. The treat is known as Mamee.

50 different snack brands

It immediately became very popular in Singapore and Malaysia. Mamee’s popularity encouraged the company to expand beyond just one offering. In 1992, they changed their name to Mamee-Double Decker and began manufacturing more than 50 different snack brands.

The Mister Potato line of potato chips is also produced by this company. Mamee-Double Decker earned both the Putra Brand Award in the Foodstuff Category and the Frost & Sullivan Award in 2014 for being the greatest home-grown packaged food company and having the top 10 instant noodles in the world.

Mr. Pang then went on to receive the 2016 Putra Brand Personality Award from brand owners and managers. The company’s recent and significant victory was being named One of Malaysia’s Best Managed Companies by Deloitte.

Early life

Datuk Pang Chin Hin was 51 years old at the time of his demise. He holds Malaysian nationality and he belongs to the white ethnicity.

Datuk Pang Chin Hinis had three sons and three daughters with his late wife and his son Pang Tee Chew currently holds the role of Chief Executive Officer and director of the company.
