Norris, a longtime official, and the present Harrison County Commissioner passed away on Saturday. He was 64.

Norris had been a member of the board of commissioners since 2012. He had also worked for a number of years for the Harrison County Highway Department, where he eventually held the position of superintendent. Norris also continued to be very involved with the county fair, serving on its board for a long time.

Norris battled cancer for a long time, but according to fellow Commissioner Paul Coffland, Norris was still present at county meetings on Monday before he passed away.

“His health had been back and forth; he’d always tried to do what he could. He was in a meeting this Monday,” Coffland said.

“He will be sorely missed. Dale always had some things he really looked forward to and worked hard on, one of those things being the county fair, where he was a board member,” Coffland added. “It’ll be difficult. His family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers, and that’s a lot of people – Dale was very well respected.”

Norris’ decline in health was a challenging process, according to Commission President Don Bethel, and his passing was a sorrowful day for the county.
