Corey Phelan, Phillies Minor Leaguer Pitcher, Dies at 20

Corey Phelan, Phillies minor leaguer pitcher who was battling cancer, passed away at the age of 20. After a long battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, Phelan has passed away the Phillies announced on Thursday.

The Phillies’ director of player development, Preston Mattingly announced Phelan’s death in an official statement shared on Twitter.

Mattingly wrote that “The Phillies family is extremely saddened by the tragic passing of Corey Phelan at such a young age,” Mattingly said via the Phillies Player Development Official Twitter account. “Corey’s positive presence and selflessness influenced everyone around him including his teammates. While he was incredibly passionate about the game of baseball, his love for his family and his strong faith superseded everything else. We express our deepest condolences to his family, as well as his teammates and staff who were by his side, providing emotional support throughout the difficult course of his courageous battle with cancer.

“Corey is and will always be a special person. His smile lit up the room and everyone who came in contact with him cherished the interaction. His memory will live on, especially with the Phillies organization”, He added.

What was the main death cause of Corey Phelan?

Corey Phelan was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in April and was undergoing treatment at a New York hospital. On October 13, 2022, he died while battling Cancer.

The Doctors tried their best but sadly they couldn’t save Corey as he was in the last stage of Cancer.

Corey Phelan, a left-handed pitcher, was signed by the Phillies as a free agent in August 2020. About a year later, he made his minor baseball league debut with the Florida Complex League Phillies. In the Year 2022, after just five rookie league games, sadly he received his diagnosis of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. After all, he pitched only 9⅔ innings in his professional baseball career.

Corey’s baseball teammate Zack jones reacted to his death saying, Corey was, hands down, the nicest player I’ve ever met. He brought brightness into the clubhouse and I never saw him without a smile. I’m absolutely saddened to hear he has lost his battle with cancer.
