Dodson Dies in a Car Accident
Cameron Dodson, a three-time USAC Silver Crown champion and former NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver tragically died on December 20, 2021, in a car accident when he was struck by a fast-moving vehicle while crossing the street.
The United States Auto Club (USAC), an organization in American auto racing, was among the first to announce the passing of Cameron Dodson. Known for his illustrious career in the USAC Silver Crown series, Dodson’s accomplishments were celebrated by USAC in their official statement.
The news was a poignant photograph of Dodson beaming with joy, capturing the spirit of a triumphant moment from his final USAC Silver Crown race at Iowa Speedway in 2009.
As news of Cameron Dodson’s passing spread, tributes began pouring in from all corners of the racing community. Bruce Harper, who had the privilege of working closely with Dodson during the Auto Value Bumper To Bumper Super Sprints, expressed his grief with a heavy heart. In a heartfelt tribute, Harper described Dodson as one of the “pavement badasses” stating:
“My heart aches. Just found out one of the pavement badasses has passed on. I got to know Cameron Dodson during my first year as the flagman for the Auto Value Bumper To Bumper Super Sprints in 2019. One of the nicest and quietest people you’ll ever meet.”

The Dodson family has chosen to bid farewell to their beloved Cameron through a private cremation ceremony at Parson Mortuary Cremation Center. The well-respected American driver, born on July 28, 1988, in Greenfield, Indiana, met with a tragic and unexpected accident on December 19, leaving his family and friends at the age of 33.
Dodson, a native of Pendleton, Indiana, began his journey in Memphis, TN, but spent his formative years in Syracuse, NY, before moving to Hackettstown, NJ, and eventually settling in Greenfield, Indiana. He graduated from Greenfield High School.
Cameron Dodson is survived by a loving and grieving family. His devoted wife, Marissa Dodson, stands beside his heartbroken parents, Thomas and Cindy Dodson of Pendleton, Indiana. Additionally, his brother, Tad Dodson, and his partner, Curtis Hanson, mourn the loss of their cherished sibling. Aunts and uncles, including Vickie (Wayne) Kibble of Hixson, TN, Johanna Augusta, Rhonda (Bill) Causey of McDonough, GA, and Matthew Crae, also share in the sorrow of this significant loss.
Cameron Dodson’s Professional Career
The young driver start his career at the age of 18 and quickly made a name for himself.
In 2007, Dodson made an impressive debut in the USAC Silver Crown series. He raced to the pole position at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and clinched his first victory in the Copper World Classic at Phoenix Raceway. Dodson’s performances earned him the prestigious title of Rookie of the Year. He concluded the season in sixth place in the point standings, cementing his place as a rising star in the world of auto racing.

He continued to shine in both Silver Crown and traditional cars. His triumph at Phoenix Raceway in 2007 would go down in history as the final race for the new generation of Silver Crown cars. In 2008, he added another series-round victory at Iowa Speedway to his impressive list of achievements.
Comeback and his Legacy
A serious road accident momentarily disrupted Dodson’s racing journey, but he returned to the track and secured his third and final Silver Crown victory at Iowa Speedway in 2009, driving the revered car number No. 991 for the Carl Edwards/RE Technologies team.
Beyond the Silver Crown series, Dodson showcased his versatility by participating in other racing. He made 11 starts in the USAC National Sprint Car Series, achieving a commendable sixth-place finish at Ohio’s Toledo Speedway under Keith Kunz Motorsports. Additionally, Dodson made four appearances in the USAC National Midget feature, with his best result being a ninth-place finish at Indiana’s Salem Speedway in 2006.
After a near-decade hiatus, Dodson made an impressive comeback to USAC Silver Crown racing in 2019. Despite facing adversity, he demonstrated his passion for the sport by finishing 20th at Indiana’s Lucas Oil Raceway, leaving a lasting impression on the racing community.
He made a significant impact in winged pavement sprint car competition, claiming an impressive 17 career victories with the Auto Value Super Sprints. Additionally, at the young age of 17, he ventured into the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
