Belle, a musician, composer, and songwriter/producer who won numerous Grammy Awards, passed away on June 23 at the age of 57 in Georgia’s Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. According to his sister and primary caregiver, congestive heart failure was Belle’s official cause of death.

Belle, who was born on November 12, 1964, in Englewood, New Jersey, in the nearby town of Teaneck, New Jersey, to the late Judge Belle and his mother Lois Belle, who now resides in Atlanta, was raised there.

Bernard was transferred from Englewood, New Jersey to Signature HealthCARE of Buckhead after suffering two strokes in the previous seven years so he could be near his family—his parents, daughter Asia Milner, and sister Regina.

Belle, a world-class musician and songwriter/producer for numerous Grammy-winning pop, R&B, and gospel recording artists, including the late Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, got his big break in the 1980s when Regina, who was singing in the background for the legendary R&B group The Manhattans, suggested he join the group as the bassist. This led to Bernard’s first break in the music industry.
