Beloved British Actor, Stephen Greif, dies at 78, Meet his Wife and Family

According to his agents, Stephen Greif, who starred in Blake’s 7 and The Crown, has away at the age of 78.

In addition to Doctors, Coronation Street, Tales of the Unexpected, and EastEnders, the actor had a long career on stage and television.

He passed away on Monday, according to Michelle Braidman Associates. Its statement stated, “With great sadness, we announce the passing of our valued client Stephen Greif.

“His extensive career included numerous roles on screen and stage, including at the National Theatre, RSC and in the West End.

“We will miss him dearly and our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Greif, who was up in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before joining the National Theatre Company at the South Bank and Old Vic.

He transitioned to film after appearing in a number of stage performances in the 1960s and the early 1970s, obtaining the part of space captain Travis in Blake’s 7.

Greif co-starred in the 1978–1981 television series with Gareth Thomas, Paul Darrow, Michael Keating, and Sally Knyvette.

Additionally, Greif performed the roles of Harry Fenning in three Citizen Smith seasons, Signor Donato in Casanova, and Commander John Shepherd in Shoot On Sight.

In 2020’s fourth season of The Crown, he also played Speaker of the House Sir Bernard Weatherill.

Greif was born in a residence that had once belonged to Anne Boleyn as a gift from King Henry VIII in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England.

He received his education at Sloane Grammar School, where he excelled in swimming and athletics while also representing the college and the county at events held at the White City Stadium, among other venues.

Later, he received a second invitation to perform with the National on the South Bank with Peter Hall. In the revival of Death of a Salesman. Directed by Michael Rudman and features Warren Mitchell, who received another Olivier Award nomination for Best Actor.
