In a fresh development to the case, Merseyside police have today (August 22) indicated they believe the attack was targeted. But they do not believe the 28-year-old Knowsley Council employee was the intended target. Emergency services raced to the back garden of a house on Leinster Road, Old Swan, on the eastern side of the city, after reports of concerns about the safety of a woman at around 12.40 am on Sunday, August 21.

At the site, they realized Ashley had received gunshot wounds. She was given treatment in the rear garden of the residence before she was rushed to hospital, where she was unfortunately pronounced dead, the Liverpool Echo reported.

Tributes have been flooding in for the “beautiful” and “loving” woman, with neighbors and friends expressing their “horror” and grief. Taking to Facebook, Paige Elizabeth said: “Heart-shattering this. Rip Ashley taken far too young.” Kayleigh Elizabeth Crowe replied: “Such a wonderful girl.” An ECHO commenter said: “She is really beautiful, lovely like a model. What a waste of a clearly great life she was living.”

Another commented: “Rip gorgeous girl. You were taken way too young… sincerest sorrow to your family thinking of you all.” Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Kameen said: “This clearly was a very shocking occurrence which has led to the murder of a young woman.
