Following a crowdsourcing campaign to raise money for the girl’s funeral, a couple has been charged with the murder of their seven-week-old child.

After an autopsy revealed the infant died from trauma, Zion Kendrick Byrd and her partner Deshan Turner were charged with the murder of the seven-week-old girl.

It all began on August 10 when police were called to a Beecher Road residence in southwest Atlanta due to an unconscious newborn. The infant girl, later known as Journee Byrd, was brought to the hospital but passed away. An inquiry was then carried out, and it was discovered that the baby had suffered injuries that were consistent with trauma that had been intentionally inflicted on her. The couple was detained and accused of killing a child and abusing a youngster.

Byrd and Turner can be seen being escorted away from the house by police in a video that was made public on Monday. The mother said, in a GoFundMe page she started before being arrested, that she discovered her infant unconscious in her cot. Booking records reveal that Byrd and Turner were still being held without bond at the Fulton County Jail.
