The Japan Shore Guard is said to have discovered the body of renowned manga artist Kazuki Takahashi (real name Kazuo Takahashi) off the coast of Nago city in Okinawa. He had reached age 60.

The Coast Guard discovered Takahashi’s body in the morning of Wednesday, July 6, according to NHK (via Anime News Network). He was apparently sporting snorkeling gear, which raises the possibility of a diving mishap. The Coast Guard and police are actively collaborating to determine exactly what caused his death.

The Shore Guard has confirmed that a passing boatman who saw something floating around 300 meters off the coast of Nago about 10:30am was the one who first reported the body.
