Indian kickboxer Yora Tade died at a government hospital in the southern Indian city of Chennai on Tuesday after fainting in the ring during a national championship final fight. Tade, 24, was transported to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai on Sunday after suffering a “severe impact on his head during the final bout of the National Kickboxing Championship,” the hospital informed CNN on Wednesday.

Doctors conducted surgery on him and admitted him to the ICU. However, Tade died without responding to therapy on Tuesday, the hospital noted in its statement. Tade comes from the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh and was competing in the final of the competition when he suffered the blow. “Jolted to find that our bright Kickboxer Yora Tade left for his heavenly place. Too early to leave us, sweet Tade! No words to describe my anguish,” tweeted Arunachal Pradesh’s chief minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday.
