In the Madhya Pradesh district of Annupur, an officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) lost his life on Thursday evening after being struck by a passenger train while supervising maintenance on a nearby track close to Amlai station.

He was in charge of overseeing pre-non-interlocking work, which involved installing points and crossings to link two already-existing tracks with a third line. Bhati and other workers were finishing up their job when, at around 7:45 p.m., a train from Katni to Bilaspur struck him close to the outer signals of Amlai station.
According to early reports, Bhati was struck by the train while he was standing between two tracks. He was taken urgently to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A departmental inquiry, according to Divisional Railway Manager Alok Sahay of the Bilaspur division, has been mandated. The failure of the loudspeaker established at the job site to warn officers and employees of any approaching trains is being looked into.
Bhati, who wed on June 8, submitted an application to be transferred to Jabalpur, where his wife, an IRTS official as well, is assigned.
