Bishop Emeritus Henry Williamson Sr. of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church reported that a beloved Memphis pastor and youth advocate died in an automobile accident on Saturday.

Williamson stated that the Rev. Willie Boyd Jr., pastor of Greenwood CME Church, left behind his wife and three children, who were not in the car at the time of the collision.

“We miss him like a son or a brother,” Williamson said. “That’s how people thought about him. A son or a brother. He’s irreplaceable.”

According to an old biography posted on the website of his church, Boyd, 44, was a native of Memphis and attended White Station High School, LeMoyne-Owen College, and Bethel College in McKenzie. He later attended Memphis Theological Seminary and Grand Canyon University, where he earned a master’s degree in education with a specialization in special education.

Boyd said on Facebook the day before he passed away on Saturday that it was his “birthday weekend.”

Boyd served as the youth pastor at his home church, Mt. Pisgah CME Church, while he was a college student. In 2003, he has ordained a deacon and given the responsibility of leading Morris Chapel C.M.E. Church. He was appointed as an elder in 2004.

Boyd would eventually become the pastor of the revered Martin Memorial Temple CME Church and serve in a position in California for a portion of 2015–2016.

Williamson claimed that roughly two years ago, Boyd was appointed pastor of Greenwood CME.
