Rose West is an English serial killer who collaborated with her husband, Fred West, in the torture and murder of at least nine young women between the years 1973 and 1987. The serial killer was born on 29 November 1953 in Northam, Devon, England. Rose also murdered her 8 years old stepdaughter Charmaine in 1971. Most of these murders took place at the West residence in Gloucester.

Rose West is currently an inmate at HM Prison New Hall, Flockton, West Yorkshire, after being convicted in the year 1995 because of ten murders. Her husband Fred died by suicide in prison that same year in 1994.

Fred’s wife Rose west is still alive and she is currently 68 years old. The British Government has given Rose West Life imprisonment as her criminal penalty for nine murders.

Rose was convicted of ten murders and sentenced to ten life terms with a whole life order in November 1995, this was the second instance of this order being imposed on a woman in the UK in modern times, the first being serial killer Myra Hindley in the year 1990. During her trial, her team claimed she’d ‘known nothing at all about any of the murders, and to this day has never admitted to committing the crimes.

Rosemary Letts aka Rose West was born in Northam, Devon, to William Andrew “Bill” Letts and Daisy Gwendoline Fuller after a difficult pregnancy. She was the fifth of seven children born in a poor family. Rose’s mother suffered from depression while she was pregnant. Rose West herself grew up into a moody and precocious teenager, prone to daydreaming and performing poorly at school.

Rose’s father, who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, was given extreme violence and repeatedly s*xually abused Rose and her oldest sister Patricia. She also attended Cleeve School for only six months.

Meet Rose West Serial killing Partner Fred West

Fred and Rose West were married in Gloucester in January 1972, and their second daughter, named Mae, was born in June of the same year. By this time, Rose earned extra money as a prostitute and Fred committed acts of bondage and violent s*x acts on underage girls.

The cellar of their home at 25 Cromwell Street was a torture chamber of the west, and his daughter, Anna Marie became one of its first occupants, subjected to horrifically brutal r*pe by her father Fred West while her stepmother held her down. This became a regular occurrence, and the child was threatened with beatings if she told anyone of her ordeal.

How did Rose and Fred West start serial killings?

Their behavior extended beyond the family circle when, in late 1972, they engaged 17-year-old Caroline Owens as a nanny. She was stripped and r*ped. Despite threats that she would be killed and buried in the cellar, Owens was able to make an escape and reported the Wests to the police. Charges were brought against them. In spite of having a criminal record, Fred was able to convince a 1973 court magistrate that Owens had consented to the activities. Both Wests escaped with fines. Rose was pregnant at that time and give birth to their first son, Stephen, who was born in August.

In the next several years Lynda Gough, Lucy Partington, Juanita Mott, Therese Siegenthaler, Alison Chambers, Shirley Robinson, and 15-year-old schoolgirls Carol Ann Cooper and Shirley Hubbard all of who were young women became victims of both Wests. After brutal s*xual attacks, they all were murdered, dismembered, and buried in the cellar under 25 Cromwell Street.
