For ten seasons in the American Football League, guard Wayne Hawkins played American football (AFL). In the 1960 American Football League draft, the Denver Broncos selected Hawkins, who went on to become one of just 20 players to play in the AFL for the entire league’s ten-year existence.

From the Raiders’ founding in 1960 until the AFL season of 1969, Hawkins started at right guard for the team. In 1970, he was a member of the Raiders’ taxi squad, and in 1971, he declared his retirement. Later, he was elected to the Raiders All-Time team.

He was named an AFL All-Star for five consecutive years starting in 1963, and he played for the 1967 AFL Champion squad that faced the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl II. The American Football League Hall of Fame includes him.

While playing on the 1967 AFL Champion team that competed in Super Bowl II, he played against Jerry Kramer of the Green Bay Packers. Hawkins and Kramer are both from Jordan, Montana, and had the same doctor, while their mothers shared a friendship.
