Veteran Japanese fashion designer, Hanae Mori, 96, Passed away

The famed Japanese Designer Hanae Mori who is known for her elegant signature butterfly motifs, various cinema fashions, and the wedding gown of Japan’s empress, passed away in her office said Thursday. She was age 96. 

Mori symbolized the rise of Japan as a modern, fashionable nation and the rise of the working woman. She passed at her Tokyo home on Aug. 11, a few days after contracting a mild fever, according to the Hanae Mori Office. She had been examined by a doctor at her home, but no precise cause of death was given.

She was survived by two sons, who have their own business, seven grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, the Hanae Mori office said. Her husband Ken Mori also passed away in 1996. Her grandchildren Izumi Mori and Hikari Mori are all fashion models. A funeral service will be held among the family. Public memorial service could be held, but details are unclear at the moment.
