Three Texas women including Tyonnie Keshay Rankin were arrested on Thursday for allegedly assaulting an Upper West Side hostess after she asked for proof of immunization, according to police.
The incident happened just days after the city issued an executive order requiring establishments to verify COVID-19 vaccinations before allowing customers to dine indoors.
A brawl broke out inside Carmine’s Italian Restaurant shortly before 5 p.m. After a “verbal dispute over-vaccination cards,” the trio of ladies attacked the 24-year-old hostess outside the family-style red sauce eatery, according to authorities.
According to Andrew Rigie, executive director of the NYC Hospitality Alliance, this is the first physical assault on restaurant employees as a result of the new guidelines.

An NYPD representative informed WSR that three female tourists from Texas were detained Thursday at 5 p.m. for allegedly assaulting a hostess at Carmine’s restaurant on 91st and Broadway because she demanded to see their immunization cards.
The law requiring evidence of immunization for inside meals in New York City went into effect on Monday, September 13. The onus is now on restaurants, which face steep fines if they break the ban.
A mother and daughter from Humble, Texas, as well as a woman from Houston, have been charged with one count each of misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief. Sally Rechelle Lewis, 49, Kaeita Nkeenge Rankin, 44, Tyonnie Keshay Rankin, 21, and Kaeita Nkeenge Rankin, 44. The victim [who has not been identified] indicated that she got into a fight with the above-mentioned defendants over a COVID immunization card, during which the defendants struck her multiple times with a closed fist, inflicting pain and redness. The necklace of the victim was broken during the battle. (The necklace’s value is unknown.) The victim’s face, upper chest, and arm were bruised, scratched, and reddened. The attack is captured on cell phone video obtained by NBC New York. “Tempers flared, and the hostess stand was nearly toppled in the chaos, with a waiter assisting in the removal of someone from the scene…. “It’s a terrible and tragic situation when one of our valued employees gets assaulted for performing their job — as required by city policies — and trying to make a living,” Carmine’s spokeswoman said in a statement.
