At around 19:00 local time, armed robbers ambushed the car he was in, shooting Mr. Ahmed and a Ghanaian colleague before fleeing with some belongings and money.
A short time afterward, he was declare dead at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
On Wednesday, his body will be returned to the United Kingdom.

He went on to say that the journalist was “completely professional and dedicate to his work,” and that he was shot while attempting to “rescue his laptop and equipment” after spending 13 days filming for a documentary in Africa.
