Stacey Park Milbern was born in Seoul, South Korea, on May 19, 1987. At the time of her death, she was 33 years old. She was born in an Army hospital and grew up in a military family in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where her father served in the US Army. Her mother was of Korean descent.
She relied on her family as caregivers as a child, but when she came out as gay, she was afraid of her evangelical Christian parents’ judgment and intended to move away, a decision complicated by her need for assistance with daily functions like eating, sleeping, and using the bathroom.
