Sonny Barger, also known as Ralph Hubert Barger, was an American outlaw biker, author, and actor who joined the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club in Oakland, California, in 1957. He wrote five books and had movie and television appearances.

Sonny had already been detained twice: once in 1973 for possessing a weapon and drugs, and again in 1988 for conspiracy. They discovered many firearms and explosives in his hands because they thought he was planning to harm a rival gang.

He and 33 other people were charged for violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act in 1979; President Nixon enacted the law in an effort to eradicate organized crime in the nation. He was found not guilty the following year after a jury returned a split decision.

Due to his heavy smoking, Sonny was given a throat cancer diagnosis in 1983, necessitating the removal of his vocal cords. In 2012, he underwent surgery to remove his prostate due to prostate cancer. He is survived by his wife Zorana and a number of significant relatives. He was 83.
