Man sentenced to nearly 11 years in prison in rapper Mac Miller’s death

Ryan Reavis, 39, pleaded guilty last year to a federal count of distribution of fentanyl, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. For his role in delivering the fentanyl-laced pills that led to rapper Mac Miller’s death overdose four years ago, a former West Hollywood resident was sentenced to 131 months in prison on Monday.

According to the US Attorney’s Office, Ryan Reavis, 39, pleaded guilty last year to a felony count of fentanyl distribution. Two more people have been charged. Stephen Walter, 49, of Westwood, has pled guilty to the charge of distribution and will be sentenced soon.

Cameron Pettit, 30, of West Hollywood, is facing charges. According to papers filed in federal court in Los Angeles, Reavis gave counterfeit oxycodone tablets to the third defendant on Sept. 4, 2018, at Walter’s command.

Reavis acknowledged that he was aware that the pills contained fentanyl or another banned narcotic. Pettit allegedly supplied the fentanyl-laced pills to Malcolm McCormick — who recorded and performed under the moniker Mac Miller — two days before the 26-year-old rapper died of an overdose in Studio City on Sept. 7, 2018, according to federal authorities.

According to prosecutors, Reavis had three guns in his possession when he was arrested in Lake Havasu, including an untraceable “ghost gun,” as well as boxes of ammunition, “digital scales covered in heroin and methamphetamine residue,” blank prescription pads, and baggies.

In addition to his prison time, Reavis also was sentenced to three years of supervised release with drug testing. Miller began rapping at the age of 14 and quickly gained a significant fanbase before signing with Wiz Khalifa’s label. During his career, Miller released five studio albums and a number of mixtapes.

Just a month before his death, his final album, “Swimming,” was published on Warner Records.
