After a frantic day of searching on Monday, Robert “Bobby” E. Crimo III was apprehended shortly before 7 p.m. local time after a brief pursuit about five miles from the shooting. Charges were not made public.
The FBI notice and Crimo’s social media both claimed that he was 21 whereas the authorities initially stated that he was 22.
According to Highland Park police Chief Lou Jogmen, a North Chicago police officer noticed and briefly pursued Crimo in nearby Lake Forest, and “the individual was placed into custody without incident.” Although we are delighted that we have a person of interest, this does not necessarily mean that the investigation is over.
The silver Honda Fit that authorities claim Crimo was driving was shown in television news footage stopped at an intersection with its doors open. According to the police, Crimo was probably armed and violent.
“This individual is believed to have been responsible for what happened,” said Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli in announcing Crimo’s arrest. Covelli said a “significant amount of digital evidence” helped lead investigators to Crimo.
