Phila Madlingozi is a South African actor, singer/songwriter, rapper, and filmmaker best known for his role as Zithembe/Zolile in the second season of the SABC1 drama series Intersexions, in 2013.
He is also the son of Ringo Madlingozi, a legendary musician.

Actor and singer Phila Madlingozi have dedicated a new song to his late mother, Judith Maqanda. His mother died of cancer last week, he recently revealed.
According to online sources, Judith Maqanda, Phila’s mother from Port Elizabeth, has been battling cancer for a long time. It had been difficult for him because she was his rock, he said. He wrote a song for her when she was still alive.
Phila said he was hoping she would live to hear the song dedicated to her.

Madlingozi was born on the 26th of October, 1989 in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. He was born to his father, Ringo Madlingozi, and his mother. However, he was raised by his grandmother in Port Elizabeth along with his other siblings and cousins.
He then moved back with his father. Whilst living with his father, his music inspired him and changed his life’s course forever.

Intersexions was his first television role. When he took a prominent position in Intersexions, he had to drop out of college since it took up too much of his time. Phila portrayed Zolile, an Eastern Cape student with a city girlfriend who falls for another girl back home.
From season one to season two, he played Sizwe in Isikizi. His performance earned him a Golden Award for Best Achievement in Original Music/Score on Television Drama. When asked about the honor, he answered, “I did not think we were going to win the award, but it demonstrates that hard effort pays off, and when I received the invite to attend the awards, I was already on my way home to Port Elizabeth.” Along with Sthembiso SK Khoza and Loyiso Macdonald, Phila went on to play Buntu on the Queen.
His music career started when he went on SA Idols. He made it to the Top 16 round. However, his father had appeared a year before on the show had people believe that his father influenced the result. The idea even caught DJ Mo Flava’s attention and he addressed the issue on Metro FM’s morning fix. Phila did not seem to care for it and it did not bother him. He even seemed spurred on by the idea of showing people that he is his own man.
