Afghanistan: Ex-Royal Marine Paul ‘Pen’ Farthing sees wife leave Kabul on almost empty plane
“People can’t get in, they can’t get into the airport,” Paul ‘Pen’ Farthing tells Sky News about how planes leave Kabul airport every hour, “regardless of whether they’re full or not.”
“We are going to leave so many people behind,” a former Royal Marine commando warned as he attempted to assist refugees fleeing Afghanistan’s capital Kabul.
Paul “Pen” Farthing, who has been running an animal refuge in the city, told Sky News about his early-morning trip to Kabul airport on Thursday to have his wife Kaisa evacuated.
She then boarded a C-17 Globemaster military transport plane on her way back to Norway, after getting stuck in a “stampede” outside the capital’s airport on her previous attempt to take an evacuation flight.
Mr. Farthing, on the other hand, was enraged by a “scandal” in which Kaisa flew out of Afghanistan on what appeared to be an almost empty plane, despite the fact that thousands of people were still waiting to go.
The plane was not theirs, according to the Ministry of Defence.
It comes after he recently requested that Boris Johnson “get a grip” on the Kabul evacuation operation, warning that people would “die.”
He has committed to remain in Kabul until all of his remaining 71 Afghan employees and their families have found a way out of the country and to safety away from the Taliban.
