Paul Pope who was the driving force behind the province’s film industry has left this mortal world, he passed away Thursday morning according to his family.

He was known across Canada for his filmmaking work as a founding member and was the former President of NIFCO (the Newfoundland Filmmakers Cooperative) and worked on hundreds of films.

The tributes have come up and begun to pour in on the unexpected demise of Paul Pope.  Premier Andrew Furey tweeted which said that he was devastated and hurt by the news.

He calls Pope a pioneer and a driving force for the Canadian province’s movie and television industry.  The city of St. John’s has also given their deepest condolences on Pope’s passing, calling him a dynamic force in the film and TV industry and a great friend of the city of St. John’s.

In a statement issued Thursday afternoon, the city says Pope was the main contributor behind the city’s 10-year economic plan, Roadmap 2021.
