Patrick James Cummins (born 8 May 1993) is an Australian international cricketer who is presently the Test cricket captain of his country.  He plays and captains domestic cricket for New South Wales and is a fast bowler and a capable lower-order right-handed batsman. Cummins made his Test debut in 2011 when he was 18 years old.

After that, injuries forced him to retire from test cricket for more than five years, until he was reintroduced to the Australian team in 2017. He was the world’s top-ranked bowler at the end of 2019 and 2020, according to the ICC Player Rankings.

The International Cricket Council named him Test Cricketer of the Year in January 2020. (ICC). In the 2020 edition of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, he was selected one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year for his exploits during the 2019 English season.

Domestic career

Before playing first-grade cricket for Penrith in 2010, Cummins played junior cricket for the Glenbrook Blaxland Cricket Club in the Blue Mountains.

 Cummins was chosen Man of the Match after taking 4 for 16 in the preliminary final of the 2010–11 KFC Twenty20 Big Bash against Tasmania.

 He finished the tournament as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, tied with Nathan Lyon.

In a match against Tasmania in March 2011, he made his first-class debut.

In 2011, Cummins joined the Sydney Sixers franchise. 2012, he joined with the Perth Scorchers but was unable to play due to injury. On January 16, 2014, he made his Scorchers debut against the Adelaide Strikers in Perth.

The Indian Premier League’s Kolkata Knight Riders purchased Cummins for the 2014 season.

He was acquired by Delhi Daredevils for the 2017 Indian Premier League and by Mumbai Indians in the 2018 auction.

Cummins was later ruled out of the entire 2018 season owing to injury and was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2020 IPL auction, making him one of the most expensive overseas players in IPL auction history.

South Africa and a contract for an international career in 2011

pat signed a contract with Cricket Australia in June 2011, and he played two Twenty20 International (T20I) matches for Australia against South Africa in October 2011. Cummins was named in the Test squad to face South Africa on his performances in these games (he took 3/25 and 2/26).

He made his Test debut in November 2011, in only his fourth career first-class match, at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, becoming Australia’s youngest Test cricketer since Ian Craig in 1953

Cummins took 1/38 and 6/79 to become the second-youngest Test cricketer to take six wickets in an innings (after Enamul Haque Jr.). He then went on to win the match by scoring 13 runs in the second innings, including a four and was named Man of the Match.
