Noel Ernest Edmonds was born in Ilford, Essex, England on 22 December 1948. He was the son of Dudley Edmonds, a headmaster who worked in Hainault, London, and Lydia Edmonds, an art teacher. He attended Glade Primary School in Clayhall and Brentwood School in Brentwood, Essex.
He was offered a place at the University of Surrey but turned it down to focus on his radio career.

Noel began his working career as a newsreader on Radio Luxembourg in 1968 after he sent tapes to Offshore Radio stations. In 1969, Edmonds moved to BBC Radio 1 where he began by recording trailers. In 1970, he began his own two-hour Saturday Programme, which was broadcasted from 1 pm to 3 pm. In 1971, he got promoted to host ‘The Radio 1 Breakfast Show. Edmonds made a brief radio comeback in 2003. In December 2004, Edmonds played a detective on a radio murder mystery play on local station BBC Radio Devon.
Edmonds was the original presenter of the BBC’s motoring series Top Gear during the late 1970s. Following, ‘The Late Late Breakfast Show was Edmonds’ first Saturday evening light entertainment show on the BBC.
In 1986, Edmonds hosted ‘ The Noel Edmonds Show’ on the ABC network in the United States.
Noel then hosted a BBC1 show, which also owned the format. In 1991 he presented a prime-time series called Noel’s Addict, but this show didn’t go long and only ran for one series.
Noel’s Saturday Roadshow was his second BBC television light entertainment show which broadcasted live on Saturday. The programme was a slow-burning success.
