Nanci Caroline Griffith (July 6, 1953 – August 13, 2021) was an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter who lived in Nashville, Tennessee. She was born in Austin, Texas, and reared in Nashville. Beginning in 1985, Griffith made numerous appearances on the PBS music program Austin City Limits (season 10). Griffith participated on the Channel 4 show Town & Country with John Prine in 1990, where she performed with Buddy Mondlock, Robert Earl Keen, and Barry “Byrd” Burton in Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe.
She was noted for her crystalline voice and evocative lyrics, and songs like “Late Night Grande Hotel” and “It’s a Hard Life Wherever You Go” became classics.
