MyKayla confesses she’s still digesting the events of the last 48 hours when asked how she’s doing. “To say I’m heartbroken is an understatement,” MyKayla says, “but I’m proud of myself for getting here despite everything I’ve been through.”

“I would have loved for my scores to count for the team and I would have loved to compete in event finals but I still did some of my best gymnastics here as an Olympian and that’s something no one can take away from me.”

“The sport of gymnastics hasn’t been kind to me over the years but I’m grateful I could be an example to never give up and to chase your dreams no matter what,” she continues.

“I am humbled by the experiences I’ve had and hope I can continue to be a light for others fighting their own battles.”

On Sunday, July 25, Simone Biles commended Mykayla’s commitment to the team and sport on her Instagram Story “I’m really proud of this one. No one comprehends the amount of effort and attention required to return to collegiate gymnastics and make an Olympic team.”

She needed to finish in the top eight overall to stay in the competition, but she came in tenth. As a result, MyKayla will be returning to the United States as required by the COVID-19 regulations, despite the fact that she competed as an individual rather than as part of Team USA.
