Gladys Berejiklian’s surprising resignation on Friday came after the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) announced it was investigating her.
“I understand that this is a difficult period for our state,” he continued, “but I have great hope and optimism that NSW is in a very good place.”
Although he didn’t put his name forward at the time, the dust had hardly settled after Gladys Berejiklian’s abrupt Friday resignation when Mr. Perrottet was dubbed as the most likely candidate to succeed her.
The Member for Epping has traditionally been the heir-apparent, despite coming from the right, which is considered the non-dominant faction in the NSW Liberals.

Perrottet secured Liberal preselection for the highly safe Liberal seat of Castle Hill in November 2010, with the support of right-wing power broker David Clarke, following the departure of sitting Liberal MP Michael Richardson.
