Love released her debut album, Down to Earth, on November 6th, 1990. The album included popular tracks like “It’s a Shame (My Sister)” and “Monie in the Middle,” which was composed specifically for the group by Stevie Wonder and sampled the (Detroit) Spinners’ hit “It’s a Shame.” The album also featured vocals from Ultra Naté, a former labelmate and house music vocalist. On the chart of the top R&B/Hip-Hop albums, Down to Earth peaked at No. 26.

Love was also featured on the song “United” from Inner City’s third album, Praise. In addition, she provided a clap back on a 1989 remix of the Fine Young Cannibals hit “She Drives Me Crazy,” taking on the perspective of a woman.

Monie Love was the host of the morning drive on Philadelphia’s WPHI-FM 100.3 from 2004 to the week of December 11th, 2006. According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Love and WPHI-FM parted ways on amicable terms, with no hard feelings between them.
