Howe returned to Metal Church on April 30, 2015, and appeared on two more albums with them, XI (2016) and Damned If You Do (2018), as well as their 2017 live album Classic Live.

Howe passed away on July 26, 2021, at his home in Eureka, California, according to Metal Church’s Facebook page. Following David Wayne’s death in May 2005, he is the second singer of Metal Church to pass away.

“We must announce the passing of our brother, our friend, and a true legend of heavy metal music with our deepest regrets,” the band wrote.

“Mike Howe died this morning at his Eureka, California, home. We are heartbroken and unable to express our feelings. Please respect our privacy and the privacy of the Howe family during this difficult time.”

Todd La Torre of Queensrche wrote on Twitter: “RIP my sweet friend. I have no words for this loss. Love and respect to you always. 

Singer Jeff Scott also uploaded a photo of the singer with the caption: “So sad to hear of the untimely passing of Mike Howe of @metalchurchis1. I finally met him for the first time this photo was taken in Vegas on 04/19. Condolences to his family, friends, and fans!”
