Honored Aerial Photojournalist, Mike Davich, Died At 54

According to the San Francisco news station KGO (also known locally as ABC7), Mike Davich, a longtime aerial videographer and photographer, has passed away. He was 54.

In a statement released by the station on Tuesday, it was said that Davich, a photographer who spent more than ten years with the organization, passed away over the weekend while carrying out a reporting assignment.

“His most recent job was in Laguna Seca in Monterey County, when he fell,” according to KGO. At the time, he was covering the Motoamerica Supersport motorcycle event at Laguna Seca Raceway. It’s unclear if he was working for KGO or as a freelancer.

According to his LinkedIn page, Davich was a well-known figure in the San Francisco television news scene, having worked as a photographer for stations such as KTVU, KGO, and KRON since 1994. He frequently reported from SKY7, ABC’s aerial coverage of breaking news events.

Hal Eisner, a longtime Los Angeles news writer who had known Davich for almost 20 years, and KGO assignment manager Jim Huntington were among those who openly mourned Davich’s passing.

“He was passionate about his job, his friends, and his neighborhood,” Eisner said on Facebook. “Mike, a United States Army veteran, even volunteered as a uniformed police officer for the Pleasanton Police Department.”

In a statement shared with Eisner, Huntington stated, “Mike was a salient member of the news team.” “He has a ton of expertise shooting from the helicopter and was always incredibly helpful over the two-way radio when I had questions.” Mike was well-known throughout the Bay Area and in the business. He appeared to know everyone and everything. People are devastated by the news.”
