Monkees Vocalist and Drummer Micky Dolenz Suing FBI

Micky Dolenz, the sole surviving member of The Monkees, has sued the FBI for any records that might relate to him, his deceased comrades, or the group as a whole. According to the complaint made by Dolenz, the FBI looked into the Monkees in 1967 for alleged anti-Vietnam war actions relating to a concert where they flashed images and slogans in opposition to the combat.

Little more than ten years ago, a piece of the FBI file on the group was made public, but Dolenz wants to see the entire case file. The Freedom of Information Act request Dolenz submitted to the FBI in June reportedly did not receive a response, according to his lawsuit. After the passing of Davy Jones in 2012, Tork in 2019, and Nesmith in 2021, he is the only remaining Monkee.

He is also the only Monkee who has been a part of every lineup since the group’s beginnings and the only one whose vocals have been recorded in the present day on every studio album.

Micky Dolenz Career, What is his Profession?

He started his career in show business in 1956 as Mickey Braddock, a character on the children’s television program Circus Boy. In the early to mid-1960s, Dolenz created his own rock group named “Micky and the One-Nighters,” with himself on lead vocals. Dolenz was chosen to play the drummer and lead vocalist in the band formed for the television sitcom The Monkees in 1965.

A couple of the songs the group self-penned were written by Dolenz, most notably “Randy Scouse Git” from the album Headquarters. Hits including “Last Train to Clarksville,” “Pleasant Valley Sunday,” and “I’m a Believer” featured his lead vocals. The third commercially available modular Moog synthesizer was bought by Dolenz. It was crucial when he wrote the song “Easy on You” in 1971. He started off by playing acoustic guitar, drums, and the Moog like a keyboard while recording it in his home studio. He then asked former Monkee Peter Tork over to aid with extra recordings after finishing that song.

For MGM, Dolenz produced music for about three years. Dolenz continued to act after The Monkees’ television show ended by lending his voice to a number of Saturday-morning cartoon series. King for a Day is an album of Carole King’s timeless songs that Dolenz agreed to record in 2009.
