The Hall of Famer, a top-tier British striker, spent two separate stints with Hull FC in the 1970s and 1980s, playing 359 times and scoring 98 tries. When he joined Hull in 1970, he quickly became an indispensable member of the squad, capable of playing anywhere in the back three of the scrum or at the center.

He also scored twice against Widnes in the 1975–76 League Cup Final. Unfortunately, the Black and Whites would eventually drop the match. He joined Leeds in 1977 for a then-record sum and helped the Loiners defeat St. Helens in a historic Challenge Cup final that Leeds won 14-12 to win the competition in 1978.

He would later go on with Hull KR before returning to Hull FC in 1981, where he would play for the remainder of seven more seasons until becoming a Great Britain international. Mick came off the bench in the second leg of the 1982 Challenge Cup Final at Elland Road as Hull defeated Widnes to win the trophy. He was Hull’s 1983 Champion as well as a back-to-back 1982 and 1983 Yorkshire Cup champion. Crane tragically passed away yesterday morning just before Hull and Leeds, two of his old teams, squared off.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Mick Crane was a professional rugby league footballer. 1970 was Crane’s debut for Hull F.C. Crane played loose forwards and scored two tries in Hull FC’s 13-19 loss to Widnes in the 1975–76 Player’s No. 6 Trophy Final on January 24, 1976, at Headingley Rugby Stadium in Leeds. On January 23, 1982, at Headingley Rugby Stadium in Leeds, Crane played left-second-row, or number 11, in the 12–4 victory over Hull Kingston Rovers in the 1981–82 John Player Trophy Final.

In December 1977, Crane was moved from Hull F.C. to Leeds. Crane participated as a loose forwards in Leeds’ 14-12 triumph over St. Helens in the 1977–78 Challenge Cup Final on Saturday, May 13, 1978, at Wembley Stadium in London.

He transferred to Hull Kingston Rovers in November 1979. On Saturday, November 8, 1980, Crane played loose forwards for Hull Kingston Rovers in the 7-8 loss to Leeds in the 1980–81 Yorkshire County Cup Final during the 1980–81 season at the Fartown Ground in Huddersfield. Crane then played left-second row, or number 11, in the 14–14 tie between Hull FC and Widnes in the 1981–82 Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium during the 1981–82 season.

On Saturday, October 15, 1983, in the Yorkshire County Cup Final of the 1983–84 season, held at Elland Road in Leeds after a 13-2 victory over Castleford on Saturday, October 2, 1982, when he played loose forwards, scored a try and a drop goal, and was named man of the match, winning the White Rose Trophy. When Crane was a student at Hull, he earned a cap for Great Britain in the 8-32 loss to Australia at Headingley Rugby Stadium in Leeds on Sunday, November 28, 1982.
