Mason Sisk’s defense team submitted a motion for a mistrial, claiming that prosecutors failed to grant access to his father’s cell phone and that there may have been information there that could have supported the teen’s defense. Limestone County Circuit Judge Chadwick Wise granted the motion and ruled that the capital murder trial for Mason Sisk be dismissed.

Additionally, Monday’s proceedings started with the defense presenting its evidence and going over a text thread between Mason and his mother Mary from 2018. It shows a loving relationship between the two, the defense argued. Wise replied that the state had been given an hour to analyze the message data. The state claimed that there is more incriminating evidence and that there is nothing exculpatory in the text messages. The judge subsequently ruled after analyzing the text messages and ordering a mistrial.
