Dr. Marcus Nelson, the former superintendent of Waco ISD, has breathed his last breath on May 15, 2021. Nelson passed away early Saturday morning due to several health complications. Chief David Williams of the Waco ISD Police Department was the first to announce his death.
Marcus’s death was also addressed by Hector J. Garcia. He is the president of the School Board of the Laredo Independent School District. In reality, he had written a Facebook post announcing Marcus’ untimely death. He also disclosed to Nelson that he had recently experienced health problems.
Laredo City Council member Alberto Torres announced on Facebook Saturday writing, “Saddened to hear of the passing of our good friend Dr. Marcus Nelson, former Superintendent of the Laredo Independent School District.” Dr. Nelson’s tenure in Waco was honored in a statement released by Waco ISD on Saturday night. After learning of Nelson’s death, Waco ISD Chief of Staff Kyle DeBeer issued the following statement:
“Working with Dr. Nelson, I saw firsthand his belief in the transformative power of education and his commitment in making that opportunity available to every child. He believed that education (and particularly the support of an incredible teacher) altered the course of his life, and he felt a responsibility to pay it forward by opening those same doors for the next generation.
