Less than an hour later, Fachie’s wife Lora won gold in the women’s B 3000m solo pursuit, breaking another world record by two seconds. “The Kennys are a fantastic family, so to even be mentioned in the same line as them is incredible,” Neil added. Lora and I have had varying degrees of success over the years. I won in London, she lost due to a mechanical [fault], she got gold in Rio, and I didn’t. We felt the moment would never come when we both won gold.”
Lora, 32, of Liverpool, won her third Paralympic gold medal after winning two in Rio in 2016. “I’ve never successfully defended a title before, so I’m overjoyed, and it’s been a fantastic day,” she added. “It was a childhood desire of mine to be a world record holder, and I am now, thanks to my pilot Corrine Hall.”
