Logan Mwangi’s mother, stepfather, and adolescent have been convicted guilty of his murder.
A mother, stepfather, and a teenage son were found guilty of killing a five-year-old boy and throwing his body into a river. Logan Mwangi was murdered in July 2021 by Angharad Williamson, 31, John Cole, 40, and an unnamed 14-year-old.
Logan’s body was discovered near his home in Sarn, Bridgend County, in the River Ogmore. He died at home following a “brutal and sustained” assault that left him with “catastrophic” injuries.
Logan’s body was allegedly tossed in the River Ogmore on July 31 like “fly-tipped garbage,” according to the prosecution.
Police officers found the schoolboy partially submerged in the water wearing a pair of dinosaur pajama bottoms and a Spider-Man top just 250 meters from his home.
Jurors heard how Logan was handled like a prisoner in the days leading up to his death during the trial.
Logan tested positive for Covid-19 on July 20th, and the jury heard how he was locked in his room with a baby gate that prevented him from leaving. Williamson and Cole forced him to face the wall when they handed him food, according to prosecutor Caroline Rees QC.
Logan’s arm was broken after the kid, who had a “thirst for violence,” pushed him down the stairs.
“I love to punch youngsters in the head, it’s euphoric,” he once sang to a support worker.
The jury was also shown comprehensive CCTV footage from surrounding residences around the time of the event, in which Cole and the teen were seen transporting Logan’s body to a nearby river at 02:43 BST on July 31, where they dumped it.
They were apprehended again as they returned to the house to get Logan’s dinosaur pajama top, which police discovered in a forested location with a large slash in it.
The lights in Logan’s room went on and off, and the curtains were opened, despite Williamson’s claims to the jury that she was asleep the entire night.
There was also proof that she had been watching YouTube videos on her phone at the time.
A terrified 999 call from Williamson, recorded hours later, warning police her son was missing, was also presented to the jury.
They were also shown bodycam footage from officers who arrived at the residence shortly afterward, which showed Cole soothing a heartbroken Williamson.
The jurors discovered that everything was a lie.
